In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different – Coco Chanel
This fashion advice also applies to anyone who wants to create a profitable online course: 👚🎓
Enter: MARKET POSITIONING, which is your opportunity to shape how potential buyers view your course–and, especially, how they see it as SPECIAL.
Here are 4 approaches for market positioning:
1️⃣ Emphasize a BENEFIT of your course
What do students who complete your course experience as a result? Perhaps you'll put them on a “certified” list of practitioners that you promote. Maybe you're an artist they want to have a personal connection to. Or perhaps the benefit is simply that they learn to quilt with speed because of your special process.
2️⃣ Emphasize a FEATURE of your course
Features are all the pieces that make up your class: the lessons and the way they’re delivered and the accompanying materials.
You might stand out with a live coaching feature, proven swipe files, a special set of inks and stencils you ship to your mixed media students, an annual live event.
3️⃣ Tell a NEW STORY
This means doing something completely different from your competitors. 7-up did this with their launch of the “uncola” made from lemons and limes instead of cola nuts. You've got to get especially creative in looking at the existing market and imagining how you could shake things up.
4️⃣ Emphasize your course as suited FOR SPECIFIC PEOPLE
Just as Jeep has been positioned for off-road use, you could make a class that’s positioned for a particular use.
Teaching bookkeeping? How about “Bookkeeping for Creatives” Teaching hand lettering? How about “Hand Lettering for Sign Makers?”
👉 ALL OF THIS POSITIONING STARTS WITH UNDERSTANDING YOUR OWN SUPERHERO POWERS
